FAQs
When can I start?
All ongoing classes are available to “drop-in”. If you are new to yoga, start with a beginning/advanced beginning class or gentle class depending on your physical condition.
How do I find the right class for me?
Finding the right class is essential. Gentle classes are slower paced and offer more adaptations to accommodate limitations to movement. Beginning/Advanced beginning classes are a great place to start if you are injury free and in good health. Some people choose to start with an Introduction to Yoga series class, which is specifically designed for people new to yoga. These series classes are offered in the fall, winter and spring.
What do I wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing but not too baggy. A more form-fitting top is helpful when your head is lower than your hips. (Downward Facing Dog Pose) Bare feet and a relatively empty stomach are essential.
What should I bring?
Yourself and an open mind. All yoga props are provided by the studio.
I have a chronic or recent injury. Is yoga safe for me?
Yes! Yoga is regarded for its therapeutic nature. A gentle class can get you started on your yoga journey if your injury is stable and does not significantly impact your day-to-day activities. If your injury is recent, affects your daily activities or is associated with pain, you may benefit from beginning with one to three private lessons to specifically address your challenges. Call the studio at (907) 277-7037 to arrange a private session.
I am not very flexible. Can I do yoga?
Absolutely! Yoga is ideal for developing increased flexibility without compromising the strength that is often associated with inflexibility. Developing awareness of the edge of the stretch will allow you to stretch deeply and safely. Talk with your teacher to find the right level of class to meet your needs.
